How do I get rid of the awful smells originating from my garbage disposal?

Scott Gamron Staff

Nobody likes these smells. They originate from food accumulation inside the disposal. The easiest method to get rid of the odors is to put some ice cubes along with lemon or orange peels into the disposal and turn it on for about half a minute.

Next, squirt a little liquid dish detergent or a small amount of bleach into the disposal and let it run for about twenty seconds. Now let cold water run in the disposal while it is running for about 30 seconds to clear out the remaining debris.
